Synopsis

Philip Grey, a young drunkard, loves Dorothy Barlow but realizes that his life style makes that love impossible. Charles Drayton, a New York attorney who bears a striking resemblance to Grey, comes to visit his relatives in the Kentucky hills and wins Dorothy's affections. When Charles' uncle George kills Dorothy's grandfather, a family feud is reopened between the Barlows and the Draytons. Grey implicates Charles in the murder, and the Barlows capture him and sentence him to hanging. Before the execution, however, Grey discovers that Charles and Dorothy are married, switches identities with Charles, and goes to death in Charles' place.
