Synopsis

Helen Wayne and Archie Crossley, two clever pickpockets, rob J. Hamilton Smith, a well-known metropolitan banker, and he is later recognized by one of their gang as a former prisonmate; they demand a price for their silence, and he is forced to accede. At a ball, where the gang stages a theft, Helen meets and falls in love with Smith, Jr. His father, because of financial difficulties, arranges with the gang to undertake a bank robbery and thus obviate the possibility of discovery of his plight. Helen, learning of Smith, Jr.'s, identity, refuses to join in the robbery and warns young Smith. He, unaware that his father is implicated, locks the bandits in the vault. An earthquake occurs, and only young Smith's heroism saves Helen; the gang and the banker are killed, but Helen and Smith, Jr., look forward to a happy future.
