Synopsis

After Emil Koenig, a brutal Prussian officer, kills Neysa Meyer's American parents, the little girl is adopted by Adolph Schmidt and given the surname von Igel. Having grown up ignorant of her past, Neysa is recruited for German espionage work at the outbreak of World War I, but the work soon proves distasteful to her. Later she falls in love with American David Hale, and after they marry, she abandons her intelligence activities. When Hale is sent to France as a member of the War Board, however, Koenig warns Neysa that she must resume her spying or he will tell her husband of her past. Even though she furnishes Koenig with false information, her actions arouse David's suspicions, and he leaves her. On his deathbed, Adolph Schmidt reveals that Koenig murdered Neysa's parents, and so apprised, she confronts the German agent. As Hale secretly watches, she informs Koenig that her reports have been false and then stabs him, thus avenging her parents' deaths. Sure of Neysa's love and patriotism, David embraces her.
