Synopsis

The Deacon, a professional cardsharp and gambler, meets John Adams, a young hobo, and Nancy, a girl hitching freight trains, disguised as a boy, when he saves Nancy from other tramps who discover she is a girl. In the next town, Nancy works as a hotel clerk and John as a garageman. The Deacon, recognizing Nancy as his daughter whom he has not seen since her childhood, stays at the hotel to protect her. John takes a beating in the prize ring, hoping to start a home for Nancy, but Cunningham, the fight promoter, refuses to pay, and before his wedding John is arrested on a trumped-up charge; but he is bailed out by the hotel proprietress. When Cunningham threatens the hotel owner, the Deacon strips him of his cash in poker and the fight manager confesses to the frame-up. The Deacon turns in the villain, gives the reward to the young couple, and "skips" town to avoid the authorities.
