Synopsis

John Adams, the son of a millionaire, poses as Jim, a product of the slums, in order to investigate a conspiracy to defraud the Adams Charitable Institute. He meets Dorothy Markham, a dishwasher, and they become friends after he prevents her from committing suicide. Margaret, Jim's sister, discovers his cigarette case in Dorothy's apartment and accuses the girl of concealing Jim's whereabouts. After Dorothy is arrested, Margaret learns that her guardian, Mortimer Wiley, is in charge of the plot to siphon money from the Adams Institute. She is abducted by the conspirators, but is later rescued by Jim, who reveals his true identity and has the criminals arrested.
