Synopsis

King Nicholas of the Balkan state of Santa Maria flees to the United States with his daughter, Sylvia, to avoid revolutionary schemers. Although Sylvia pawns the crown jewels, the royal exiles are soon reduced to poverty; and their landlady, Mrs. Schrapp, gets the king a job. Revolutionaries frighten Sylvia, who flees and spends the night in an automobile showroom; the indignant manager sends her to sell a car to nouveau riche Tom Pettibone, who introduces her to society as an Albanian princess. At the country club she meets two crooks masquerading as the king and princess of Santa Maria. Sylvia pursues the phony princess when she steals some jewels, and after an attempted assassination by the revolutionaries, she retrieves the gems and wins Tom.
