Synopsis

Inspired by a motto she reads on a calendar, Nancy Scroggs, the daughter of the owner of a run-down hotel in a once famous health resort, decides to round up some customers. She drives her dilapidated 1902 Ford to the train station and picks up vacationing Peter Van Alstyne and, using Christian Science reasoning, she convinces him to forego his doctor's orders and eat all he wants. Peter boasts of the food, and soon he and Nancy fall in love while they run a thriving hotel. Peter receives a telegram that Nancy assumes is from another love interest, and leaves town. Nancy's father loses the hotel gambling and drowns himself, then with the life insurance left to her, Nancy goes to finishing school. Envious of the other girls' love letters, she pretends to get letters from a famous baseball player. To humiliate her, they take her to a ballgame, but when she sees that the player is actually Peter, she leaps over a rail into his arms.
