Synopsis
Betsy, an overworked maid in a boardinghouse, dreams of working as a detective, as does her boyfriend Oscar, the grocer's delivery boy. An opportunity presents itself with the arrival of Harry Brent, a mysterious young man from the city, who takes a room in the boardinghouse. Harry, realizing that Betsy is smitten by his charms, induces the girl to help him obtain a box filled with jewels which is in the possession of the Jaspers, an old couple across the hall. Explaining that the box contains his family jewels and a will in his favor which had been secreted by Jasper, the crooked family lawyer, Harry involves Betsy in a robbery which results in her being kidnapped by real thieves. After many adventures, Betsy is rescued, the thieves are arrested, and the jewels are returned to Harry, their rightful owner, who also claims Betsy as his bride.
