Synopsis

Wharfmaster Buck Elliot is the leader of a band of murderous crooks. The gang shoots down a policeman in a wharfside scuffle, and Detective Donovan vows vengeance upon the murderer. He follows Elliot home, where Elliot persuades his wife (previously unaware of her husband's underground life) to provide him with an alibi. When Mrs. Elliot is later brought to police headquarters, incriminating evidence indicating Elliot's complicity in a scheme for a train robbery is disclosed. Under Donovan's leadership the police catch the thieves in the act. Elliot escapes but is later pursued by Donovan, whose life is saved when a fellow policeman shoots and kills Elliot. Over time Donovan and Mrs. Elliot come to realize their love for each other.

Notes

Ascher Productions acquired this film from Universal for distribution in the fall of 1920. A trade review appeared on November 6, 1920, but the film's date of release is unclear. Oscar Jacobs Productions is one of the companies listed on the film's entry in the copyright register, but it is unclear what role that company played in the film's production or distribution. The film appears in the AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30; F2.0347, which erroneously gives the name of the actor playing Joe Donovan as H. B. Warner instead of J. B. Warner, who was H. B. Warner's brother.
