Synopsis

During World War I, young Belgian fisherman Victor Morenne leaves his sweetheart Jeanne Desfree when French art connoisseur Colonel Dupin convinces him to develop his skills as a sculptor in Paris. Although Victor has vowed to return to Jeanne, while in Paris he becomes enamored of Countess de Vries, actually a German spy. Jeanne's uncle, meanwhile, tries to force her into marrying Berger, the local postmaster, who is also a German spy. When Belgium is invaded, Victor joins the Belgian army and is wounded and apparently blinded. Unknown to him, Jeanne nurses him back to health, while the countess rejects him. Victor eventually regains his sight and his love for Jeanne, and the countess is arrested as a spy.
