Synopsis

Dr. Arbutus Budd, a New York beauty specialist, does a thriving business but is dogged by creditors. He obtains the crest of a forgotten baron of Bolognia and uses it as a trademark on bottles of beauty lotion; when the crest is recognized, Sobini, an undertaker, is commissioned to bring back the "baron" (Budd) to Bolognia. Expecting to inherit a fortune, Dr. Budd takes his attorney, Phil Briggs, and Anna, his ward, with him. His only legacy, however, is a duel with Maldonado, a notorious badman; moreover, Cremo Panatella, a hideously ugly girl, falls in love with him. He gives her some beauty preparations, which she applies and is unable to remove. Budd flees with Cola, a dancer with whom he has fallen in love, but is captured; he removes the paste from Cremo's face, and she is revealed as strikingly beautiful. The duel is canceled, and they all sail to America.
