Synopsis

At the "beauty market" of a social gathering, Amelie Thorndyke meets two wealthy men: Ashburton Gaylord and Kenneth Laird. Although she becomes infatuated with Laird, she accepts Gaylord's proposal, and to meet pressing bills, she pawns Gaylord's diamond brooch engagement gift. Laird gives her a check for the $1,500 she owes, but a society paper spy discovers the check and notifies Gaylord, who denounces Amelie, Laird and all women. After learning what Amelie has done, Laird leads her on until they are married. He then accuses her of belonging to a class who sell their souls for gain. Amelie departs to earn honestly the money he loaned her. She returns later with the money and the couple are reunited.
