Synopsis

"Fancy Charlie," an expert safecracker, gains entrance to the apartment of criminologist Lawson and mistakenly assumes he has robbed one of his own profession; Lawson, who believes in "honesty among thieves" and wants to test Charlie, gives him some money with instructions to establish an honest business in the small town of Plumfield and at the end of a year to divide the profits with him. Charlie successfully enters business with the Fanchettes and falls in love with Nellie, the bookkeeper. At the end of the year Charlie decides to go straight and offers to return Lawson's investment, but Lawson refuses the offer. When promoted as a candidate for mayor, Charlie publicly confesses his past, but he is met with cheers; and after Lawson's explanation, he settles down to a happy life with Nellie.
