Synopsis

Richard Farrington, the wild son of an English lord and an American mother, is sent to visit his aunt and uncle in Long Island. On his way there, Richard rescues a kitten belonging to Betty Winthrop, the Van Allen's ward, but by mistake, he gives her the card of John Smithers, a Yonkers cardsharp who cheated him in London. Richard follows Betty to the Van Allen estate and overhears her avow that she would sooner marry a red-blooded American burglar than a spineless English aristocrat. Wishing to win her, Richard keeps his identity secret. As Smithers, he becomes foreman of his uncle's lumber camp, where he foils an attempt to bomb a lumber train. He saves Betty's life when her canoe overturns in a log jam, and exposes a conspiracy to sabotage the camp. When a detective attempts to arrest Richard as Smithers, he reveals his identity. After Lord Farrington, who arrives in search of Richard, vouches for him, Betty accepts the Americanized Richard as her future husband.
