Synopsis

When Virginia Lee, a U.S. senator's daughter serving as a Red Cross nurse, treats wounded American soldier David Starr at a French field hospital, her patient falls in love with her. After Starr is wounded a second time, he is sent back to Washington. At a French Embassy ball months later, Starr sees Virginia, but, realizing that a romance between himself and the daughter of a wealthy senator would be socially unacceptable, he goes West. Two years later, Virginia and her father travel West to investigate thievery at the mines. On the night of a Fourth of July celebration, Sheriff Sam Benson and a posse chase the accused thief, called "Lonesome." Though wounded, the thief escapes and takes refuge in a cabin where Virginia is staying. Virginia recognizes the man as Starr and believing that he is innocent, leaves him in the custody of Benson while seeking to obtain his release from Senator Lee. Upon her return, Virginia proves Benson is the thief, then dons her Red Cross uniform and again nurses the wounded Starr.
