Synopsis

Abel Manning, an aging country lawyer, is appointed American consul to a new Central American government by Senator James Kitwell, a crooked politician. Thinking that Manning is an ineffectual small towner who will easily recognize the new government led by revolutionary Pedro Gonzales, Kitwell promises Gonzales recognition in return for an interest in some valuable Central American mines. Manning and his daughter Joan, a schoolteacher, go to live in a small town where, instead of being used by the revolutionary regime, Manning deposes Gonzales. As Manning cables Washington for help, Gonzales and his gang seize the diplomat, threatening to kill him unless he endorses their cause. Geoffrey Daniels, Joan's sweetheart, who is installing wireless stations in the mines, intercepts the cable and rescues Joan and her father with the aid of a cruiser and the United States Marines. Upon his return to the states, Manning receives the recognition for loyalty and honesty that he has long desired.
