Synopsis

Millicent Howard, a young girl of no means but of great beauty, keeps up an appearance of wealth by clever ruses, hoping to catch a millionaire husband, although she lives at a cheap boardinghouse with her mother. While she is being wooed by Jerry, a young chemist, Millicent meets Archibald Claverhouse, a wealthy young man who becomes infatuated with her and proposes marriage; but she is undecided which to choose. When she is invited to dinner by Claverhouse, Milly spoils her gown and decides to wear one owned by Mrs. Gillespie, sent to her mother's cleaning shop; but unfortunately the lady is present and denounces her for stealing the gown. Humiliated and defeated, Millicent admits her fakery to Claverhouse and goes home. There she finds that Jerry has accepted a job in South America, and she catches him after a mad dash to the station.
