Synopsis

When revenue officers are about to capture a scow loaded with bootleg whisky, Rita Wingate, one of the bootleggers, destroys the boat. She escapes, but her father, the captain of the tug pulling the scow, is captured. Steve Redding, the leader of the bootleggers, refuses to help Rita's father, and she quits the gang. To keep her quiet, Steve has her put in a house of ill repute, from which she quickly escapes. Running from the gang, Rita takes refuge in the apartment of Rex Brandon, the revenue chief; she and Rex fall in love and are soon married. When Rex is about to arrest Steve, a bootlegger tells him of Rita's stay in the whorehouse. Rex resigns from the department rather than involve Rita in scandal; Rita rejoins the gang in an attempt to obtain evidence with which to arrest them. Rex learns that Rita was innocent and vows to redeem himself, going after a load of bootleg whisky stored in railroad cars. During the raid, Rita, who tipped off Rex, is locked in a flaming boxcar--but Rex saves her after a wild chase. Rex and Rita are reunited, and Rex assumes his old place in the law enforcement community.
