Synopsis

Billie Durey, a flapper, arrives in Portersville, Virginia, to visit her married sister, Jane Longworth, the wife of the district attorney. She arrives in the middle of Jane's birthday party and causes a sensation with her bare knees, cigarettes, and other flapper accouterments. Larry Cook, an apprentice lawyer in Longworth's office, takes an immediate liking to Billie, seeing in her a kindred spirit. Billie wakes up the sleepy town by encouraging the girls' baseball team to don some new, zippy uniforms. Result: the men's team is so busy looking at the girls that they lose their own game. Billie soon discovers that Jane is having an affair with Paul Gladden, a friend of her husband's. She prevents Jane from eloping with Gladden and helps Longworth to realize that he has been neglecting his wife. Then, after having first refused Larry Cook's marriage proposal, she perceives his sterling worth when he rescues her from a burning roadhouse located on a pier, and she accepts him.
