Synopsis

Shortly after the death of her father, Gloria Waring discovers that her brother, who stands to inherit the family fortune, is about to marry a notorious gold digger, Teddy Lamont; to prevent the marriage, Gloria openly steals the unopened will from the lawyer, James Hamilton. When Gloria later meets Hamilton at a reception, he recognizes her and confronts her with her crime. Gloria admits to the theft and explains its purpose to Hamilton, who is extremely sympathetic. Hamilton offers to help Gloria, but he is unsuccessful, for he had an affair with Teddy Lamont and she no longer respects him. By the day of the wedding, Gloria still cannot dissuade her brother from the marriage, and she accompanies him to a justice of the peace in Connecticut. As the ceremony is about to take place, Hamilton steps forward and declares Teddy to be his common-law wife. Gloria's brother is disillusioned by this terrible confession and calls off the wedding. Hamilton decides to go to Europe; and Gloria, who has unexpectedly inherited the family fortune, goes with him.
