Synopsis

Lieutenant Denton of the United States Cavalry loves Bonita Canby, the daughter of a prosperous Arizona rancher. Estrella Benham, the wife of the regiment's commander, Colonel Benham, is bored by her elderly husband and seeks distraction in the arms of Captain Hodgeman, a fortune hunter. When Denton overhears the lovers making plans to elope, he wrests Estrella's jewels from Hodgeman and throws him out. Hoping to persuade Estrella to break with Hodgeman, Denton follows her to her room, but the two are surprised by Colonel Benham. Rather than reveal Estrella's disloyalty, Denton says nothing and resigns in disgrace to accept a position as foreman of the Canby ranch. Denton proposes to Bonita, but Hodgeman has poisoned her father's mind against him. Estrella finally exonerates Denton, and he and Bonita are wed on horseback.

Notes

Exterior scenes were filmed in Arizona. Some sources list Frederick Burton's role as Colonel Bonham. Some sources credit Dick Rosson with the role of Tony. Modern sources credit Fairbanks as the scenarist, producer and director. In addition to the 1913 version listed above, the story was remade in 1931 by director George B. Seitz for Columbia with John Wayne. That film was also called Men Are Like That.
