Synopsis

Raised by a father who desired a son, Jacqueline Channing develops into a tomboy. After her father's death, "Jack's" inheritance is put into the trust of her two maiden aunts until she marries or reaches the age of majority. Her aunts decide to send Jack to boarding school where, feeling restrained, she runs away and obtains a job at the offices of Ridgeway and Son. Because the firm is experiencing financial difficulties, Bob Ridgeway goes West to purchase some mining properties at a great bargain. However, the firm lacks the funds for the purchase, and so Jack suggests to Bob that they marry and draw upon her fortune to pay for the property. Bob, who has fallen in love with Jack, agrees, but when time comes to go West to close the deal, the elder Ridgeway becomes so ill that Bob cannot leave him. Instead, Jack makes the trip, beats the Ridgeways' business rivals to the property and secures the deed. When Jack returns home, the elder Ridgeway is restored to health - largely a result of Jack's saving the firm from bankruptcy - and all ends well.
