Synopsis

East Indian prince Har Dyal Rutton promises his dying father to lead a revolt against English rule, but having occidental sympathies he flees to America and lives in obscurity. Sophia Farrell, daughter of a British colonel and engaged to Darrington, meets David Amber, who bears a strong resemblance to Har Dyal Rutton. When the prince defies a Hindu messenger who reminds him of his oath, he is mortally wounded, but before he dies he arranges that Amber will return to India posing as the prince. Salig Singh and Nairaini, a princess, know Amber's identity and plan to usurp the throne. Sophia is abducted and taken to the Temple of the Bronze Bell, where Amber denounces the rebellion; and just as the fanatics are about to kill them, British troops arrive.
