Synopsis

In the farming community of Spring Valley, Aurora Lane is suspiciously regarded as a sinful woman, having been compromised by Lucius Henderson 20 years earlier and given birth to his child, which he refused to acknowledge. Don, her son, is cared for by Miss Julia, the town librarian, who pretends to be his aunt; he goes to college and there meets and falls in love with Ruth Hale, Henderson's ward. Don graduates and obtains a position. While visiting his "Aunt Julia," he is reunited with his mother, who operates a millinery shop. Scandalmongers, misconstruing her actions, cause her to be driven from town by the constable. Don is later arrested for the murder of the constable and is about to be lynched when Johnny Adamson, a halfwit, confesses to the crime.
