Synopsis

Ruth Marshall is forced financially to marry wealthy Richard Janeway. Janeway turns out to be a drunken philanderer who, on their honeymoon, renews his relationship with a former flame. The night their child is born, Janeway leaves Ruth for a wild party. At another party 5 years later, Janeway fetches the child to entertain the guests, placing his daughter in his mistress' arms. He later throws his wife out of the house, threatening to give the child to Lucia, his mistress. Ruth flees to Janeway's mother, who sympathizes with her. While she is still there, Dr. Hillyer telephones to say Janeway is dead. Ruth confesses she accidently killed him when he goaded her beyond endurance. Dr. Hillyer arranges the body in such a way that the coroner reports the cause of death as suicide.
