Synopsis

Simon, an independent filmmaker in his early 20's, travels from his native Los Angeles to New York City to join his patron, Brandy, who subsequently becomes his girl friend. Their relationship and its difficulties are explored alongside the making of the film, which chronicles Simon's and Brandy's odyssey across the American landscape and Simon's frustrated quest to recapture what has been lost from his past. En route by car to Los Angeles, they visit Brandy's father in Chicago, but the meeting of the generations only discourages Simon's hope of finding a foundation in the past. Brandy becomes pregnant, and they return to Manhattan, where, lacking a sense of stability, Simon neglects Brandy. Exasperated, she nearly leaves him. They confront their problems, however, and are able to devote themselves once again to their lives together with their infant child and to the film.
