Synopsis

Ruth Sawyer, unaware that her mother is the proprietress of a gambling house, is raised by her grandfather Judge Whitlock. When Ruth graduates from finishing school, she discovers the truth about her mother and is socially ostracized. Her mother takes her to the gambling den, but the judge rescues her and takes her on an ocean voyage to Paris. While on board ship, she meets and falls in love with Douglas Courtenay, a diplomatic envoy on his way to Paris. Douglas and Ruth marry and have a child. Three years later, Velvet Craft, Ruth's mother's partner in the gambling house, appears and threatens to expose Ruth's past. Ruth buys Craft's silence with her jewels, but Doug discovers Ruth's deception and denounces her. Ruth flees back to the judge; Doug follows her and begs her forgiveness, and the two are reconciled.
