Synopsis
José León, foreman of the Toro range in Mexico, is engaged to Conchita Mesa. She breaks the engagement when he refuses to reveal the sender or the contents of a letter he has received from his sister, Lola. Several years before, Andy Walker, an American, had led Lola a life of sin before they married, and then the two disappeared. José goes to "The Devil's Bowl," a notorious hideout for thieves, where he finds Lola ill with tuberculosis. Andy arrives, chased by four American ranchers for cattle rustling. Andy forces José to change clothes, and José is mistaken by the ranchers for Andy. They let José go, after Lola's pleas, but first they brand him on the forehead. A gunfight ensues between José and Andy in which the latter kills Lola. The rurales capture José but later collaborate with him in Andy's capture. In the end, José and Conchita are reconciled.

Notes
Story and character names are from shooting script in the copyright files and May be different from the final film. This script is almost identical to the one found in the file for The Devil's Bowl (1923; see separate entry), except for changes in some character names and locales. One May infer that Branded a Thief is either a remake or a reissue of the earlier film.
