Synopsis

Virginia Blaine, a hotel telephone operator--at the urging of her sister Fanny and the latter's fiancé, Jimmy--marries Robert Stafford, a young millionaire, though she does not love him. Stafford lavishes her with every luxury. After 2 years of happiness, however, he frequently comes home drunk and insults her with the remark that she is his property, "bought and paid for." Infuriated, she declares she will leave him unless he stops drinking, and when he refuses, she deserts him. She returns to her life of limited means, and Stafford, though he gives up liquor, is too proud to ask her to return to him. Their reconciliation is brought about by Jimmy, now Fanny's husband.
