Synopsis

Joe Welland, a Texas Ranger, is ordered to bring in Phillip Gerard, who has killed an Indian named Lone Star. The ranger overtakes the fugitive, only to discover that Gerard is his own brother. The outlaw resists arrest and in attempting to escape falls over a cliff, apparently to his death. Joe returns sadly to the ranger station and finds consolation in his growing love for Mary Maitland, the daughter of the captain. Angus Bland, the leader of a notorious gang of smugglers, has advanced Captain Maitland money for Mary's education; and Maitland, who cannot repay the loan, allows Bland to move illegal goods freely across the Mexican border. Joe learns of this arrangement and resigns his commission, going after Bland himself. Mary is kidnaped by the smuggler and taken to a cabin, to which they are trailed by Joe. Bland and Joe fight it out, and Bland accidentally sets off a charge of dynamite that blows up the cabin, killing himself and some of his men. Joe finds his brother, who has become a hopeless maniac as the result of his fall. The brother dies, and Joe and Mary make plans to be wed.
