Synopsis
In 1865, Morgan Gray, a Confederate renegade, kills the mother, father and sweetheart of Amity Graham and later marries her. Before dying in childbirth, Amity puts a curse on Gray and all his descendants. Fifty-two years later, the family curse is visited on Morgan Gray's hard-drinking, but likable grandson Abel, who, on the day of his marriage to Northern girl Hope Halliday, mistakenly concludes that he has killed a man, thanks to the machinations of his malevolent brother Kane. Fleeing to a distant area, Abel fights his tendency toward alcoholism and tries to recover his self-esteem. Eventually he rescues his wife from a gang of villains and learns that he had not committed murder, thus overcoming the family curse. [No other information concerning the plot has been discovered.]

Notes
This film was intended as part of the series entitled The Morals of Men, but Horsley ceased to use the series title when Art Dramas took over from Mutual as distributor of the films. The film was originally entitled The Heirs of Hate and was probably also known as Third Generation before its release. Publicity materials credit Ingraham as director and Dunbar as story writer, but a pre-release news item cites Ingraham and Wilbur as co-directors and Wilbur as story writer. Another pre-release news item credits Lorimer Johnson with the film's direction, but this is probably an error. Ray Thomson May be the same as the actor Ray Thompson.
