Synopsis

Sebastian Maure, a novelist with a reputation for fast living, falls in love with Ghirlaine Bellamy, an American society girl whose puritanical ideals cause her to be known as "The Blonde Saint." At a dinner party, Ghirlaine tells him she is engaged to marry Vincent Pamfort and will leave for England the next day. Sebastian tricks her into meeting him aboard a boat going to Palermo and jumps overboard with her in his arms; they are picked up by a Sicilian fishing boat and taken to a small island, where he repeatedly attempts to win her love and she threatens to kill herself. Cholera breaks out in the village, and Ghirlaine is advised to remain in the villa; but when Fannia is stricken, Ghirlaine goes to Sebastian. Pamfort arrives but sends his valet to see her because of the plague. While departing with the valet, Ghirlaine saves Sebastian from death at the hands of a Camorrist and confesses her love for him at last.
