Synopsis

In cinema verité style, the film follows husband and wife Gerald and Barbara Temaner during the birth of their first child, using a natural method that was not common at the time. The film, which is divided into three sections, documents the early preparation, the labor period and the delivery. The early part of the film includes the Temaners' discussions, the philosophy behind choosing a natural approach to childbearing and an exercise system for the expectant mother. As Illinois law at that time did not permit the father in the delivery room, the Temaners' had to arrange to use a hospital in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
