Synopsis
Tired of the bridge games that consume his married life, middle-aged Assistant District Attorney George Maxwell finds himself responding to the advances of his teenaged babysitter, Candy. Maxwell has been assigned to prosecute motorcycle gang leader Laurence Mackey for the brutal slaying of Doris Winkler. Mackey's girl friend, Julie, decides to blackmail the prosecutor into dropping the case by gathering evidence of his daughter Joan's lesbian activities, but Julie stumbles upon Maxwell's blossoming romance instead and photographs him with the babysitter. Confronted by the incriminating evidence, Maxwell realizes that both his marriage and his career are at stake and calls Candy to end the affair. She convinces two friends to visit Julie; they force her to divulge the hiding place of the negatives and then plant marijuana where it will be easily discovered when Candy phones the police. The next day, the newspapers are filled with news of Mackey's conviction and with praise for the prosecutor. Maxwell's letter of resignation arrives as the district attorney examines the photographs sent by special delivery, but all goes well. Maxwell's resignation is refused, and his wife, who has also received copies of the photos, concedes that perhaps they have indeed been spending too much time playing bridge.
