Synopsis

Country and Western singer Johnny Cash is featured on a concert tour with his wife, June Carter; his back-up band, the Tennessee Three; guitarist Carl Perkins; and Mother Maybelle and the Carter Family. In addition to numerous performances, Cash is seen in studio recording sessions with Perkins and also with Bob Dylan. Cash visits his boyhood home in Dyess, Arkansas, and the site of the 19th-century Indian massacre, Wounded Knee, South Dakota. One of his concert stops is a prison, where he is warmly received by the inmates. Guest artists perform "Bread and Gravy," "Fire Box," "Biscuit," "Old San Antone," "The Last Thing on My Mind," and "The Boy I Love the Best."
