Synopsis
In an attempt to create a humanoid slave laborer (called by its owners a "biological robot") Dr. Alex MacGregor and a team of scientists attached to the Cromogene Corporation produce Wishman, a new life form that is designed to be the workman of the future -- immune to high voltage and radiation, indifferent to pain and boredom, and completely dispensible. However, when the playful little creature fails to respond to commands during testing, he is ordered destroyed and a more responsive life form created. Having developed a special affinity for Wishman, Alex decides to save him from a life of slavery. Suddenly, Alex and his wife, Mattie, a fashion photographer, find themselves on the run when Cromogene assigns Galen Reed, a security chief, to recapture Wishman. The story depicts the MacGregors' efforts to elude Reed and safeguard Wishman.
