Synopsis

During World War II, the shortage of manpower in the workplace meant work for millions of women who had been previously denied jobs because of their gender. Many worked in defense plants, so the nickname for these women became "Rosie the Riveter." Newsreel footage accompanies interviews with five of the Rosies--Wanita Allen, Gladys Belcher, Lyn Childs, Lola Weixel, and Margaret Wright. The women discuss the discrimination and harassment that they encountered in the workplace, their pride in their accomplishments during the war, and how they opened doors for future generations of women.
