Synopsis

A documentary review of the notorious case of the "Boston Strangler," a person who committed 13 murders between 1962 and 1964. Albert DeSalvo confessed to the 13 murders in 1965. No physical evidence linked him to the crimes, nor were there any eyewitnesses. Sent to a maximum-security prison, DeSalvo was murdered six years later. The controversial, taped confessions have never been made public. Many involved in the case regarded DeSalvo as nothing but a publicity-seeking opportunist -- not the real murderer. As a result of a lawsuit announced by the family of DeSalvo and last victim, Anne Sullivan, new evidence may be revealed. The documentary features interviews with many of the key players involved in the original investigation, including F. Lee Bailey, DeSalvo's attorney; John Donovan, Boston police homicide chief; Jim Mellon, police officer on the scene of the first murder; Loretta McLaughlin, the reporter who coined the term "Boston Strangler"; and newsman Steve Dunleavy, who interviewed DeSalvo in jail and is convinced he is innocent.
