Synopsis

When they were passed over for managerial positions at the bank where they worked, and then forced to train the all-male staff hired to be their supervisors, eight women went out on strike. The citizens of Willmar, Minnesota where the strike took place are interviewed, as well as the eight women, and local labor leaders. The depth of this gender prejudice was exposed when the local church sided with the men, the labor unions did noting to support the women, and the National Labor Relations Board ruled in favor of the bank. Sadly for the "Willmar 8," they not only lost their jobs, but were unable to secure any other employment following their demands for equality. However, working conditions for women in Minnesota banks did improve as a result of their actions.
