Synopsis
Fictional documentary offers an account of three months in the winter of 1989-90, a worst-case scenario of how the Cold War might have ended badly. The story opens in October 1989, during the collapse of the German Democratic Republic. The program rewrites history to imagine that a coup by Moscow hard-liners replaces Soviet leader Gorbachev with a fictional KGB General named Vladimir Soshkin. The new dictator authorizes a military crackdown on anti-Communist East German demonstrators -- and as images of the resulting bloodbath flood the world, a crisis ensues.
