Synopsis

A poor, aging woodcutter lives in the forest with his wife and seven small sons. Tom Thumb, the smallest of the boys, overhears his parents talking about their poverty and persuades his brothers to go out and cut wood to help the family. In the forest they are set upon by a child-eating ogre. The boys try to escape, but their trail leads directly to the ogre's house. The ogre's wife, a former princess who lives there with her seven unkempt little daughters, shelters the boys. Tom induces the girls to bathe and put on clean clothes, and all together they persuade the ogre to give the mother the key to the chest that holds the magic wand. The wand changes the woman back into a princess; it also changes the ogre into a gentleman who gives the boys money and a magic ax to help their parents.
