Synopsis

Dr. Jenny Blanchard and other scientists at the Center for Disease Control are closely watching the outbreak of flu in a small town in Guatemala. Dr. Daniel Rothman is sent to investigate and makes a terrifying discovery. The flu is similar to the Spanish Flu, a strain in 1918 which killed countless millions around the world -- a flu which has never been seen again and for which there is no vaccine. Rothman is able to quarantine the villagers but realizes too late that one person is missing -- a young woman, Rita, who has begun a trek northward to the United States to join her boyfriend. As the threat of a worldwide epidemic looms, Jenny Blanchard's research uncovers the only hope for a vaccine -- a possibility the flu strain may still be in the bodies of Russian miners who were buried in the frozen Siberian tundra in 1918.
