Synopsis

Adaptation of Shakespeare's play about love, honor and betrayal. Set in Mississippi before and during the Civil War, Anthony Prosper is a dishonest scoundrel who has taken over the family plantation from his older brother, Gideon. When Gideon uses a powerful voodoo spell to save the life of the slave, Ariel, Anthony tries to have his sibling executed, but Gideon and his daughter Miranda escape into the swamps with the help of old family friend Gonzo. Twelve years later, a Union officer, Frederick, is wounded by Confederate soldiers while scouting the bayou. Miranda rescues him and they fall in love. Anthony and a local man team up to capture and kill Gideon, but Gideon has developed his voodoo skills to battle his brother, keep his daughter from Frederick and survive the battle between the North and South.
