Synopsis

Documentaries by individuals who endured a rigorous audition process in order to tell their stories to a national television audience. In "Episode I, Jeanne," Jeanne, deaf since the age of two, investigates a cochlear implant, a controversial procedure with no guarantee. In "Episode II, Yolanda," 18-year-old Yolanda, raised by a single mother, is about to become a single mother herself. In "Episode III, Jonelle/Jack," the first part follows Jonelle, a Ph.D. candidate in psychology who has completed her dissertation and has only to defend it orally before she secures the degree that she has pursued for a decade. The only obstacle is her life-long nearly disabling stutter. In the second part, Jack, a native of Taiwan who grew up in the United States where his parents worked to give him a good education, begins a summer internship after two years of fast track pre-med. In six weeks, Jack will know if he is cut out for medicine and if he can live up to his parents' expectations.
