Synopsis

Chronicles the stories of some of England's most notorious spy sagas. First, the show tells the true stories of why Mary, Queen of Scots, was executed. Evidence indicates that Queen Elizabeth's spymaster, Wallington, forged a letter that implicated Mary, a spy named Babbington, and several others plotting her escape. The spies named in the letter were tortured before their deaths. Elizabeth was more courteous to Mary, and her beheading was quick. The program reveals how Christopher Marlowe, a contemporary of Shakespeare's, spied for Wallington, and was murdered in a pub by friends of the late Babbington. No one knows if Marlowe's death was directly related to this double-life.
