Synopsis

Documentary about British journalist Adrian Levy's search for the real man behind the character Colonel Kurtz, portrayed by Martin Sheen in the film "Apocalypse Now." Levy discovers the real Colonel Kurtz is a former American Marine and CIA operative in charge of "Operation Momentum," the CIA's secret war in Laos. His name is Anthony Posphepny, aka Tony Poe. The program opens in a go-go bar in Bangkok that is frequented by U.S. servicemen and former CIA operatives, including Jack Shirley, a former Air America mission controller upon whom Harrison Ford's "Apocalypse Now" role was based. Jack describes Poe's journey into the heart of darkness, directing Levy on his search. Levy's search takes him to Ho Chi Min City (Saigon), Hanoi, Vientiane and Laos, where he gathers his final clues, confronts and interviews Tony Poe.
