Synopsis
Documentary about the Underground Railroad, an interracial alliance that helped slaves to freedom. Features profiles of prominent figures of the railroad, including: Harriet Tubman, who made 20 trips to free over 300 fugitives; Frederick Douglass, who galvanized Abolitionists with his accounts of cruelty to slaves; Harriet Beecher Stowe, whose book, "Uncle Tom's Cabin," turned many Northerners against slavery; William Still, whose family harbored more than 2700 runaway slaves at its home in Philadelphia; and John P. Parker, a freed black man from Ohio who put his life at risk by making many crossings across the Ohio River to pick up fugitive slaves.
