Synopsis

Documentary about the massive explosion that ripped through the gun turret on the U.S.S. Iowa on April 19, 1989, killing 47 crewmembers. The Navy claimed that a gunner named Clayton Hartwig deliberately caused the explosion to commit suicide after the breakup of his homosexual relationship with shipmate Kendall Truitt. By the time the story was proved untrue, the damage to both men's reputations was done. Based on a book from W.W. Norton, the program features news footage from CBS News archives, as well as interviews.
