Synopsis

On December 12, 1978, Detective Joe Kozenscak was the new chief of detectives in Des Plaines, Illinois. While going through the night's reports, he came across a missing-person report on 15-year-old Robert Jerome Piest. Robert was close to his parents and very involved in school activities, not a normal profile for a runaway, so Kozenscak took special interest in the case. He discovered that while at work, Robert had spoken with a local contractor named John Wayne Gacy about a summer job. When questioned, Gacy denied ever meeting the boy. But a note that Joe happened to spot while in Gacy's house indicated that Gacy might not be telling the whole truth. As Kozenscak continued to pull at the threads of Gacy's story, it unraveled to reveal that Gacy was a serial killer who had tortured and strangled over 30 young men. The program also reveals the work of the FBI agent who captured superspy John Walker.
