Synopsis
During the Cold War, more than 10,000 top secret spy plane missions were flown over Communist territories. The best known of these flights was that of Francis Gary Powers, whose U-2 spy plane was shot down over Soviet air space in 1960. Unknown to the American public at the time was that 31 planes in total with 252 American flyers had been shot down, Twenty-five flyers were killed and another 137 were missing. The program examines what kind of missions these pilots undertook, the risks involved, the results achieved and the continuing struggles of the families to learn of the fates of those still unaccounted for.
